Top Five European Golf Players


There are numerous professional and young golfers who are trying to earn a place in the European team for the Ryder Cup Matches for 2010 which will be held from October 1st to 3rd at The Celtic Manor Resort located in City of Newport, Wales. The team will be selected on the basis of World Golf ranking points earned by European tour members by playing in any tournament held from 3rd September, 2009 to 22nd August, 2010. Depending on the points list and money earners list, the top five players will be selected for the play-off in the Ryder cup. The remaining three players will be chosen by the Europe team's Captain Colin Montgomerie based on the performance of a golfer. Below is a list of top five European golf players according to Ryder cup points:
Lee John Westwood is one of the professional golfers from England who has won several major tournaments in major continents including PGA Tour and European Tour. He became a professional golfer during 1993 after winning the British Youth Championship. During 1996 he won the first tournament at Volvo Scandinavian Masters that was followed by Sumitomo VISA Taiheiyo Masters. In the same year he partnered alongside Nick Faldo for Ryder Cup 1997 edition. During the 2009 PGA tours he jointly ranked at the third position. In addition he has a good record in the Ryder matches winning several matches and in the 2006 Ryder tournament event he didn't lose even a single game while justifying his wildcard selection.

Ian Poulter is an expert golfer from England who has been an active member of two specialized golf tours like European Tour and PGA Tour. Recently on 21st February, 2010 he won a major tournament at PGA tour WGC Accenture Match Play Championship by beating Paul Casey. He has appeared in the 2004 and 2008 Ryder cup playoffs representing Europe. Currently in the probable list he is ranked at the second spot with 190.70 points behind Lee Westwood.

Rory Mcllroy is another qualified golfer who hails from Northern Ireland. Rory is ranked at the third spot with a 148.60 World Ryder Cup Points List and currently he is playing at 2010 PGA & European tours. Rory was a member of Europe's Junior Ryder Cup 2004 winning team. On February 6th, 2007 he was top ranked at the World Amateur Golf Ranking table, but he lost the top spot after one week. On 2nd May, 2010 he won the Quail Hollow Championship for the current PGA Tour by defeating Phil Mickelson.

Padraig Harrington is an Irish qualified golfer who has won three major championships in PGA Tour and Open Tour championships during the 2007 to 2008 season. Bob Torrance coaches for Harrington and has five PGA tour wins. He has an excellent record in Ryder Cup appearing in 1999, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008 matches. Harrington has earned 8.5 points from twenty one matches at an average of 40.48 point percentage. In 2008 he was awarded the PGA player of the year award for his consistent performances in the golf tournament. Currently he ranks at the fourth position in the list of probable's for 2010 Ryder cup European Team with 133.31 points.

Martin Kaymer is a German proficient golfer who is currently playing for European Tour and ranks at the sixth position in the official World Golf Ranking list. He became a professional golfer in 2005 and has thirteen professional wins. Kaymer is the first German to win the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Award for his performance in Volvo Masters where he was ranked at 41st position based on the Order of Merit. He narrowly missed an opportunity to represent the European team in the Ryder Cup 2008 playoffs. In the World Ryder Cup points list, Kaymer is positioned in the fifth spot with 132.48 points.
