Top Five Destinations in the Caribbean for Golf



There are many golf courses scattered throughout the Caribbean, with varying degrees of difficulty, some included as part of golf resorts, and some that are just part of a local club open to the public. Golf vacations are popular and having some advanced information about where might be the best places to visit to combine golf with a vacation or business trip can go a long way to making for a more enjoyable experience. 

Jamaica  is home to twelve golf courses, each with its own personality and unique design features. Green fees vary significantly depending on the course, several of which are located at all inclusive resorts, most offer tuition, equipment rentals, caddies, driving ranges and putting greens. The White Witch Golf Course is an 18-hole course set on a 5000-acre estate in the mountains with panoramic views. The Tryall Club is an 18-hole course that has hosted international events and provides a challenge to even the best golfers. The Ironshore Golf & Country Club in Montego Bay is an 18-hole course that will keep golfers of all abilities interested and focussed. The Grand Lido Braco Golf Club in Trelawny is a tight but challenging 9-hole course with hidden hazards and fast greens. The Caymanas Golf & Country Club was opened in 1957 and is a favourite with golfers of all abilities.


Barbados is home to seven golf courses, the most famous being Sandy Lane which is made up of 3 challenging courses - The Old Nine, The Country Club and Green Monkey. Green Monkey, a Tom Fazio creation, is available to resort guests only. The Apes Hill Club is a challenging 18-hole course with breathtaking views over the Caribbean Sea. This course is open to members and their guests only. The Royal Westmoreland Golf Course is a Robert Trent Jones Jr designed 18-hole course of 7045 yards. An additional 18-hole course, designed by Rees Jones, is also in the making at this resort. The Barbados Golf Club is an enjoyable and challenging 18-hole course located near to the airport that is open to the public, and is very popular with visitors. There is a club house with bar, restaurant and pro shop, a well stocked equipment rental shop and golf tuition. The Rockley Golf Course is a 9-hole parkland course with a well stocked pro shop, bar and restaurant. The course is suitable for golfers of all skill levels.

Curacao boasts three challenging golf courses - the Curacao Golf & Squash Club, the Blue Bay Golf & Beach Resort and the Hyatt Regency Resort Curacao Golf Resort, Spa & Marina. The Curacao Golf & Squash Club is an 18-hole course set amidst rare trees and shrubs that are home to many birds and iguanas. The course is open daily from 6 am until 7 pm. The Blue Bay Golf & Beach Resort is home to a challenging 18-hole course in a stunning location right next to the sea. There is a well stocked pro shop, rentals, a golf academy and a club house with a well stocked bar. The Hyatt Regency Resort Curacao Golf Resort, Spa & Marina is home to an 18-hole Pete Dye championship golf course located next to a 1500 foot long white sand beach. The course is just shy of 7000 feet and is suitable for golfers of all ages and abilities. There is a full service club house, driving range, pro shop and lockers.

St Lucia is home to three golf courses. The all inclusive Sandals St Lucia Golf Resort & Spa boasts an 18-hole course set amidst 155 lush acres bounded on one side by a stunning white sand beach. The St Lucia Golf Resort & Country Club is a semi-private 18-hole course suitable for golfers of all skill levels. Golf carts and proper attire are mandatory. The Jalousie Plantation has a unique 9-hole course set amidst the rainforest in the shadow of the Pitons in the south of the island.

The island of St Thomas in the US Virgin Islands is home to the Mahogany Run Golf Course, a George and Tom Fazio designed course offering 18 challenging holes with the famous (or infamous) "Devil's Triangle". The course is in a stunning location beside the Atlantic Ocean, there is a well stocked pro shop and equipment rentals.
